Childcare
Academy
The Childcare Academy provides the opportunity to work with children and to
gain a recognised childcare qualification for those who are unemployed.
Construction Academy
The Construction Academy provides a number of training programmes aimed at
the unemployed in Edinburgh and the Lothians who are seeking a career in the
construction industry. The programmes include Get Ready for Work that is aimed
at 16-18 year olds, New Deal 18-24 and the Capital Build programme for those who
are aged 18 and over.
Creative Industries
Academy
The Creative Industries Academy provides a portfolio of education programmes
and training designed to get people back into education or employment in the
creative industries. Includes short courses which last 13 weeks with
progression to National Certificate programmes. Final course is a one year
programme in the Creative Industries.
Programme timetable:
- NC programmes start September until June
- Short courses start in Easter each year
- Creative Industries course starts October
- Training Programmes start June & November
Edinburgh Community Technology
Academy
Edinburgh Community Technology Academy (ECTA) is a Joined Up For Jobs
initiative delivered across the City of Edinburgh.
Involving the Capital City Partnership, City of Edinburgh Council, Careers
Scotland, Jobcentre Plus, Scottish Enterprise Edinburgh and Lothian, Edinburgh
Chamber of Commerce and other key partners including Cisco Systems and Microsoft
Inc, and with the help of an European Social Fund grant, ECTA programmes are
offered at a range of leading training centres throughout the city of
Edinburgh.
ECTA is part of the LearnDirect Scotland sponsored Industry Alliance for Jobs
programme, which aims to improve the IT skills of 100,000 Scots by 2010, and
help them to find long-term employment.
Healthcare Academy
The Healthcare Academy is a six weeks pre employment course to prepare
individuals for a clinical position and a career in the NHS. The course runs for
three days a week (Tuesday to Thursday inclusive) from 09.30hrs to 16.00hrs. It
includes team working, communication, moving & handling, basic life support,
practice interviews, application forms and confidence building. The course
includes two clinical placements. Applicants must fit 'training for
work' criteria.

Public
Sector Academy
The City of Edinburgh Council has more than 20,000 employees and over 4,000
vacancies each year. The Public Sector Academy helps unemployed city residents
access these vacancies through a range of initiatives. These include training in
filling out application forms, interview practise, training in the Council’s
core competencies and work experience placements.
