Advice and help with recruiting a diverse workforce
A number of circumstances and conditions can create difficulties in employing individuals who can contribute positively to your business. For example, some may have difficulty with childcare; others may have limited mobility; or may have been off work for a long time because of a health problem.
Jobcentre Plus Disability Employment Advisers (DEAs) offer help with finding work and advise customers and employers about a range of specialised support available for disabled people, including:
Access to Work can help employers with the extra costs of employing staff with a disability or health condition. For example, it might pay towards the cost of equipment they need at work, adapting premises to meet their needs, or a support worker.
Employ ability is for managers and employers who want to know how they can use the talent and skills of disabled people and those with long-term health conditions. Practical information and support is available to help make employing and retaining disabled people as easy as possible.
Other organisations which offer support in relation to specific groups can be found on the Directory.
Job brokerage
Job brokerage involves actively matching individuals and jobs. This will include working with employers on analysis of job roles and adjusting recruitment processes; and also sourcing applicants, supporting and preparing them for the jobs and sifting applications. Some organisations specialise in job brokerage in particular industries, especially those where there are identified skills gaps, and seek to bring more people from diverse backgrounds into them.
A number of organisations offer this, in particular the employment academies, working in specific sectors; and the employment hubs, working with employers in particular areas of Edinburgh.
