Childcare careers with the City of Edinburgh Council

21 March 2018

Edinburgh`s Early Learning and Childcare Academy

Interested in a career in Childcare with Edinburgh Council?

Edinburgh Council are advertising to recruit 90 trainees and apprentices ready to take up a career in childcare.

This recruitment drive is in response to the Scottish Government's pledge to increase the free early learning and childcare provision from 600 to 1140 hours per year by 2020.  The hours will be offered to 3 and 4 year olds, as well as 2 year olds whose parents/carers are on qualifying benefits.

Edinburgh Council will look to recruit 700 Early Years staff over the course of the next few years to meet the need of this increased nursery provision. This effectively results in a doubling of council nursery provision in the city.

The council is well placed to recruit and train Early Years staff, operating the award winning EELCA (Edinburgh's Early Learning and Childcare Academy) programme over recent years.  The training programme allows trainees to learn and earn at the same time.  Successful applicants will study for an SVQ Level 3 qualification in childcare over the course of the 2 year programme, earn a full time wage and have the opportunity to work in a range of early learning and childcare settings too.

Posts are advertised on the My Job Scotland website. Closing date for applications is Sunday 6 May.
