Joined Up for Integration - Housing and Employability Programme

7 January 2019

The Joined Up for Integration team will be running a Housing and Employability programme throughout January and February.

The purpose of the programme is for officers to have a better understanding/awareness of the employability services/providers in their locality.  This in turn will enable those that work with housing tenants to promote the employability services that are relevant to them, and signpost and/or refer tenants to these services more easily, strengthening integrated working.

The programme is open to the following staff groups:

  • Locality Housing Officers
  • Multi-storey concierges
  • Homelessness Officers
  • Edinburgh Tenants Federation
  • Family and Household Officers
  • Front line reception staff in the locality offices
  • Any other officers in related fields as identified by Housing and Family & Household Support Managers
  • New employability staff who would like to get an insight into the areas below or employability staff who would like to attend to build relationships with housing staff

The programme will focus on three themes:

  1. 'Criminal Justice: employability opportunities for those that are in/have previously been in the criminal justice system
  2. 'Pathways for young people' [16-25]: apprenticeships, getting work ready, personal development skills, mentoring
  3. 'Getting back into work': skills refresh, interview support, childcare options and an input about the Employability and Skills Centres (Fort Kinnaird / St James Quarter).

Each session will be a half day either from 9:30am - 1pm or 12:30pm - 4pm with lunch provided for all participants (lunch from 12:30 - 1pm).  Sessions will be in the format of short inputs from organisations and 'speed dating' style networking.  Sessions have been booked across Edinburgh in different locations on a range of dates/times to maximise attendance.
