Mental Health First Aid for Young People

6 June 2018

Joined up for Integration Project are hosting a 'Mental Health First Aid for Young People' Training Course, delivered by NHS Lothian.

Thursday 19 July.

9.30am - 4.00pm.

Hanover Housing, 95 McDonald Road, Edinburgh, EH7 4NS.

About the course:

This course is a blended learning course that takes a preventative approach to mental health for young people. The whole course should take up to 14 hours. It is a mix of online study (parts one and three), and face-to-face with a SMHFA:YP facilitator (part two - date above).

  • Part 1 of the course is self-study and is about understanding the context for mental health first aid and underpinning principles when supporting a young person suffering from a mental health crisis.
  • Part 2 of the course is face-to-face with your trainer delivering the intervention skills training to you and a group of fellow learners. Before attending this part you will be required to complete Part 1.
  • Part 3 is another self-study which deepens your understanding of mental health problems and young people. To access Part 3 you must attend the Part 2 face to face session. Your trainer will then unlock the Part 3 materials.

At the end of Part 3 you will be asked to complete a reflective account of the learning and how you will put it into practice. Your reflective account is about reflecting on the entire course and how you will be able to put it into practice.

To obtain a certificate of completion and to be able to successfully use the intervention skills learnt you will be required to complete all 3 parts of the course.

The online component of this course is facilitated through NHS Health Scotland Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Once allocated a space on the course you will be sent instructions to register with the VLE in order to access materials.
