Organisation Description
Community Renewal works to transform communities by engaging and supporting people to get involved in community activity and to improve health, learning and employment.
We work in small neighbourhoods and housing estates to improve the wellbeing of families and communities and increase the employment rate. The aim is to change the culture of the area. The more the area changes from predominantly workless to active the more this will ensure sustained economic, social and environmental regeneration.
Our community animators engage with people by door knocking and home visits . Through an open ended listening process people are supported to identify where they would like to make a change in their own lives and in their community.
We take a people first approach to help deal with a range of issues and gain trust. With those who are not working a personal plan is developed towards improving health and economic activity. Others may be supported into voluntary or community activity.
Once trust has been built up we use a case management approach whereby people are introduced to partner agencies at the grass roots level who work with the project team as part of a neighbourhood multi-disciplinary team.
Community work is also undertaken by the project to tackle some of the environmental and social problems that contribute to stress, ill-health and low morale in the neighbourhood. This is part of our holistic approach.
Tackling confidence and health barriers means getting the welcome right - this means creating an environment that is friendly and safe. At each Community Renewal Centre the door is always open and people can drop in for a chat and cup of tea.
